Falling Into Sujood To Make Du’aa

A questioner asked Shaykh ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abdul-’Aziz Al ‘Aqeel (hafidahullah) that they have read that Shaikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah), if he wanted something, he would fall into prostration and supplicate to Allaah. Is this action legislated?

Answer by Shaykh ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abdul-’Aziz Al ‘Aqeel (hafidahullah):Yes, this is legislated because of the hadeeth of the Messenger salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam:

"The closest that a person comes to his Lord is when he is in sujood [so say a great deal of du'aa in sujood]". {Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (radiallaahu ‘anhu); Saheeh Muslim}

It is also mentioned that Imam Al-Bukhari (rahimahullaah) would not place a hadeeth in his book except after praying two units (raka’at) of prayer. Thus, this action is permissible and there is no problem in doing it.
